Prefontaine Classic
The Goal: Develop a public relations plan to ensure that the media has the information they need to communicate event changes effectively with the public during the uncertainty of COVID-19. *This plan was outlined when the event was to take place in October 2020. The event has since been postponed to a later date in 2021.
The Client: The Prefontaine Classic is a track & field meet held annually in Eugene, Oregon. The event draws professional athletes from around the world and is now part of the Wanda Diamond League, an elite organization. This Nike sponsored meet has been held since 1975.
My Role: Designer
The Result & Takeaways
Despite the unpredictability of the event timeline, my team and I drafted and designed a variety of messaging to ensure our client had a plan for whatever the outcome may have been. We did this through creating press releases, holding statements, info-graphics and other guides that would be easily sent to media outlets.
This was a unique experience with crisis communications as there is no guideline to managing an event during a pandemic. My team worked to put together a range of messaging options so we could prepare for many potential event dates.
